Why Imirt?
Because we believe playing games is fun — but also so much more than fun.
Tabletop games aren’t just about amusement and distraction. When we play we engage our minds: solving problems, forming strategies, learning from our mistakes. We create characters, explore ideas, experience triumphs and tragedies - and in doing so, leave a lasting mark on ourselves and one another.
In a world where screens and technology drive us further apart, tabletop games ask us to come together — to sit face-to-face, to share stories, laughter and challenges — like few other activities do.
Over the years, those of us behind Imirt have seen first-hand this power of games to bring people together, and through it we have gotten to know some of the friendliest, most passionate and most enthusiastic people — the Irish tabletop gaming community — and our lives are richer for it.
Our aim with Imirt is to serve that community with a truly dedicated space, for Kildare and beyond. But just as we ourselves were welcomed into the world of board games, we want to welcome those who have yet to roll their first D20, to play their first card, build their first engine or place their first worker. Because inclusion — playing together — is the true spirit of tabletop gaming.
Imirt (which means "play" in Irish) is about that spirit. We will be:
A touchstone where seasoned Irish gamers can find events, tournaments, new releases, and each other!
A friendly café space where anyone and everyone can explore the world of board games for the first time.
A community space where people from all walks of life can come together around the simple, powerful idea of play.
We're working hard — scouting for the perfect premises in Naas and preparing a crowdfunding campaign for later this summer. But the support so far has been incredible, and we want to say thank you.
Thank you for being part of Imirt, and the spirit of play.
